The Love and Care Foundation was born in the hearts of Pastor Dann Erlina and all the pastors associated with him in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. They prayed for means to bridge the need between themselves and the poor little ones who have lost their right to live descent lives. They vowed together to volunteer and pool their little resources and start feeding the street children in the city and in their respective churches.

Seeing the painful scenery of the lives of the depressed, needy, hungry and children deprived of education, one can not deny to himself that there is a great need out there.

They considered this job a real opportunity to express God’s love in the most tangible way as they reach out and extend their hands and touch the most hurting groups of people in their society.

In December 1997, they registered at the Security and Exchange Commission. They were able to connect to Australian Government (Aus-Aid) as one of the partner agency in Street Children Nutrition and Education Project (SCNEP) from 1997 until 2001. This project was extended by the same donor country for another two years which was called the Street and Urban Working Children (SUWCP) which ended in 2002. This project was giving rice allocation to children and parents who work in the streets begging. Parents and children were also given values formation by street volunteers.

FAITH ~ “Full Assurance In The Heart” and “Food Always In The House”

I have had the opportunity to personally be involved first hand with the Love and Care Foundation, ministering to families, children and ministering through the teaching of God’s Word and helping to feed the hungry. The pictures I share with you I personally was able to take (and believe me, I have many more). It has been a life changing experience not only for the Filipino people, but for me as well.

The pastor’s and their families wake up early every morning to start on long journeys up into the mountains, rain or shine, to minister, feed and clothe the people. Sometimes one trip to a village will take hours to to get to. Driving the rugged mountain roads, taking pump boats across lakes for hours to share the love of Jesus with the village people.

“Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see, for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.” (Luke 10:24)

They give and care with an expression of God’s love. They give of themselves and help others. “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1) That is what Jesus did for us and that is what we are to do for others, so that their lives and our can be changed.

Faithfulness to God brings fruitfulness in the land. Bring in the harvest!

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” (Matthew 9:37)

We need to feed on the bread of life and not just feast on it ourselves, but share it with those around us. “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the people in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12)

It’s not like America where children toss spare change in the trash, or walk right over the top of nickels. Every penny counts. Teaching and feeding is fundamental.

And what is exciting is they use the Bible for teaching moral values in their schools!!

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

“Thus says the Lord: Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the Lord; And they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope in your future, says the Lord, that your children shall come back to their own boarder.” (Jeremiah 31:16-17)

“Remember the prisoners as if chained with them ~ those who are mistreated ~ since you yourselves are in the body also.” (Hebrews 13:3)

“But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.” (1 Thessalonians 2:4)

“…being confident of this very thing, the He who begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…” (Philippians 1:6)
